Local Mission

We believe that the church exists for the world and not for herself. The church is to introduce and usher in the Kingdom of the Liberator into every part of this world. To do that, we are constantly and consistently looking for creative and innovative ways to tell the story of God's redemptive work in Jesus while also applying that same innovation and creativity to meeting the needs of those around us.
In the scriptures, we see that Jesus was incredibly good at telling stories and feeding and healing the people with whom he came in contact. And so, the call to follow Jesus is an invitation to join in telling the story and meeting the needs. This invitation begins locally and then flows out into every part of the world.
Here you can find some of the ways that this mission has begun in the city of Houston.
Homeless Ministries
Emmaus Ministries
Volunteers are needed for Emmaus Ministries. Emmaus is a ministry that serves at Taft St. every Monday and seeks to show the love of Jesus to men exploited through prostitution right here in the community surrounding our church. Emmaus Ministries needs volunteers to make lunches, either one time or on a consistent basis. Other opportunities include hospitality, serving meals, night-time outreach, and prayer partners. For more information, please email David: david [at] emmausministrieshouston.org.
Simple Feast
Every Sunday after the 11:00am gathering in James Bute Park. Come serve, eat lunch and hang out with our homeless brothers and sisters. Contact Jacky Bui at jaxbui@gmail.com for more information. You are also welcome to simply show up in the coffee shop after the 11am gathering ends. To help with donations of water, fresh fruit, and prayers, please email Manuel: manuel [at] ecclesiahouston.org. To help care for pets of the homeless at James Bute, email Carey Muhlhauser: carey.muhlhauser [at] yahoo.com.
Face to Face
Every Wednesday from 12:30pm - 3:00pm at Hermann Park. Face to Face is similar to Simple Feast, except on a weekday. It is a fantastic opportunity to join in community and build relationships with our friends at Hermann Park. For more information or to help with donations of food/fresh fruit, please email Manuel: Manuel [at] ecclesiahouston.org.
No Studio Studios
Every Thursday from 10:30am - 2:00pm in the venue space at Taft. No Studio Studios is a place where homeless artists can create, store, and electronically market their art. We are a workspace for the displaced. Currently, we are in need of art supplies such as paint, brushes, canvas, paper, easels and more. If you have any interest in donating or have further questions, please email Manuel: manuel [at] ecclesiahouston.org.
First Ward Kids - Volunteers Needed
If you are interested in investing in Ecclesia's new neighborhood but don't know how to engage, consider volunteering in the after-school program at Crockett Elementary School, just down the street from 1100 Elder. The program serves 300 neighborhood kids daily Monday through Thursday and includes tutoring and enrichment activities like art, cooking, robotics, dance, sports and music. For more information, please contact Amanda Finke: amanda [at] ecclesiahouston.org.
Generation One Tutors
Generation One, a non-profit ministry located in the third ward of Houston, is in need of tutors for the Each One Teach One Tutoring Program where tutors are matched one on one with kids in pre-k-5th grade. Tutoring runs Monday-Thursday from 4-6pm. If you are interested please Email: tutor [at] generationone.net.
Francis Street Garden
The Francis St. Garden is on a piece of property in Houston's historic 3rd Ward. We intend for the garden to be an example of how something that seems to be in a debilitated condition, if loved on, tended to, prayed for, and invested in can be transformed into something beautiful and filled with the Glory of God. We seek to unearth the latent beauty of neighborhoods through sustainable gardens that provides fresh produce, authentic community and hope for the future. For more information on how to volunteer or to donate resources, please contact Manuel: manuel [at] ecclesiahouston.org or find them on facebook.
